Mortality

Dedicated to the memory of Elfreda Brown whom I have lost and hold dear along with those missed opportunities I can never repair

In the beginning all was created.
Everything we see and experience today exists
But forever one question always persists,
Why are we here and where did we come from?

The miracle of life we have the power to create,
In acts of violence evil does not hesitate,
To take it away and replace it with pain and hate,
Who is affected pain seldom discriminates.

Life, growth, death is the cycle.
Happiness, pain, humility, anger, love,
The emotions, feelings, experiences we have are endless.
From the smallest of seeds a giant sequoia may be,
So too we hope our live will have impact, meaning and filled with glee.

The one thing we hope to find before our end,
Is that one person, your confidant, your lover, your friend.
If ever you are fortunate to find that special person,
Listen to, care for and protect them,
Because should you lose them a thousand deaths is certain.

What is the meaning of life nobody really knows,
But we will be born, live, and grow.
Sometime between birth and the end,
What I have learned to cherish most are my family and friends.

Don’t wait to tell them how important to you they are,
Don’t be afraid to show them and open up your heart.
Too late is the hard lesson we sometimes learn,
For once we experience loss we can never return.
Never to return are the opportunities we missed,
To set things right and avoid regret.

Hindsight is always 2020,
But it is also the year that  I have lost plenty.
Lost are those close to you and the ones you loved,
Distant from everyone this pandemic has caused.
Another lesson I have learnt through all of this,
Don’t let your pride or selfish thoughts allow you to miss,
What is truly important which give meaning to your life,
Those special ones that you should support and be there for irrespective of doubt.
Never can you regain what you have lost,
Once mortality has collected its heavy cost.

I leave you with this my friend,
Be true to you, others and always be that friend.
Be supportive and kind to all selflessly,
Because what is the meaning of life if we don’t create precious memories?
